Calvin Wendt started CW Xteriors in 2009 as a one-man operation. With 16 years of experience working on exteriors, Calvin was steadily building CW Xteriors’ reputation in the Peace Region and adding employees when the community-encompassing fires hit Slave Lake, AB in 2011. That changed everything. CW Xteriors was already known to many of the insurance companies operating in the region. Calvin was asked to get his crew to the fire-ravaged community, stat.
“The amount of work was just incredible,” he says. For over a year, he and his team worked around the clock, seven days a week. Their dedication didn’t go unnoticed.
“We started developing an awesome reputation for getting work done well, and fast,” Calvin says. “Basically we were the go-to guy.”
It wasn’t an easy time, working constantly. “It took a toll on a lot of people, it was a strain on a lot of the families,” he said. “It was worth it, though, to help so many people. We felt like humanitarians.”
It’s a reputation that has stuck with the company since.
Today the company continues to grow. With its offices located in southwest Grande Prairie, CW Xteriors now has a steady contingent of full-time employees who have been in the business for years.
“It really sets a standard in terms of how things are run here,” says Calvin, who has two sons, Sheldon and Nathan, working with him. “Everyone has experience here and everyone cares.”
When he thinks back to the early days, Calvin realizes how far CW Xteriors has come. “It’s surpassed my expectations, constantly, from when I started. And it hasn’t stopped.”
CW Xteriors is a proud contributor to the United Way and an active member of the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce.
